16 dead in traffic accident in Bolivia

La Paz, July 21 (UNI) – Sixteen people were killed and 14 others injured in a traffic accident on an international highway between Bolivia and Chile on Saturday, police said.

A truck returning to Bolivia from the Chilean border collided with a passenger bus heading to the Chilean region of Arica, said Nilo Torrico, head of the accident department of the La Paz transport operations organization.

The injured, seven women and seven men, were taken to a local hospital for treatment.

“The driver of the heavy goods vehicle was the one who crossed into the oncoming lane and collided head-on with the bus,” said Torrico.

The drivers of both vehicles died in the accident.

The police investigated the accident.
