Suspicion of road rage after police chase ends with accident and arrest in Lakewood

DENVER (KDVR) – Police are shedding light on a chase that ended in a crash and the driver was arrested.

The original report to dispatch was of shots fired near 32nd Avenue and Sheridan Boulevard in Wheat Ridge around 3:19 p.m. Sunday. Lakewood police located the suspect’s vehicle shortly thereafter and initiated a short pursuit.


The pursuit ended near 20th Avenue and Wadsworth Boulevard, approximately 2.5 miles from the original location, at which point an unknown man exited the car.

The driver entered Interstate 70 eastbound.

At this point, Lakeside Police were notified.

The suspect’s vehicle continued east on Interstate 76 and crashed while attempting to exit the highway near Pecos Street. There, Lakewood police arrested a 19-year-old driver and took him to the Jefferson County Jail.

During the pursuit, the victims of the original report made their way to the Wheat Ridge Police Department to file a report.

Lakeside police said Wednesday that no shots were fired and no injuries were reported.

The police assume that this is all due to an incident of road rage.
