Robber known for raping victims gunned down in encounter with Uttar Pradesh police | Bareilly News

SHAHJAHANPUR: A man, who had a bounty of Rs 100,000 on his head, was shot dead in a joint encounter between the UP STF and local police in Tilhar area of ​​Shahjahanpur late on Wednesday.

Shahnoor, a resident of Sambhal district with 32 criminal cases, was hiding in Pithnapur village in the Tilhar police station area.

At around 1 am, Uttar Pradesh STF officials stopped a car near the village after receiving a tip-off about Shahnoor’s whereabouts. They asked him to surrender, but he and his accomplice opened fire.

In retaliation, the police also opened fire and Shahnoor was shot in the chest while his accomplice managed to escape.

Shahnoor was taken to the hospital where doctors declared him dead.

Shahjahanpur SP Ashok Kumar Meena said, “The encounter took place in Tilhar in which UP STF, Sambhal’s notorious criminal Shahnoor alias Shanu was killed. According to police sources, the criminal used to abuse and molest women during robberies. STF was looking for him for about two and a half months. He had committed the last robbery in Mainather area of ​​Moradabad where he had attacked a woman.”

Abdul Qadir, circle officer of STF Bareilly unit, said, “Shahnoor was the right-hand man of the notorious Usman gang. He joined the Usman gang in 2003 and started committing robberies and other thefts. Investigations revealed that he went into hiding in Delhi after the crime. Last year, Shahnoor travelled from Sambhal to Uttarakhand via Bareilly. He stayed in Nainital for months and hid his identity.”

“More than 32 cases have been registered against him in several districts, including robbery, murder, rioting and robbery. On May 4, a reward of Rs 100,000 was offered against him for absconding in the cases registered at Mainather police station in Moradabad district as we were looking for him,” Qadir said.
