Body of “Top Chef Masters” star Naomi Pomeroy recovered after fatal subway accident

The body of Top chef Star Naomi Pomeroy has recovered less than a week after her fatal dinghy accident.

The Benton County Sheriff’s Office said Wednesday, July 17, that canoeists on Oregon’s Willamette River saw a body around 10 a.m. and called 911.

Marine Corps BCSO officers arrived at the scene a short time later and “found a deceased female on a shallow section of rock near the middle of the river where the water was approximately 12 to 24 inches deep,” a press release said.

The discovery was made about a half-mile upstream from Hyak Park between Corvallis and Albany, the sheriff’s office said.

“Officers took Naomi to a funeral home and notified her family of the recovery,” the press release continued.

Pomeroy, 49, was out in an inflatable boat with her husband, Kyle Webster, and another person on July 13 when she went underwater and did not resurface, Benton County Patrol Lt. Toby Bottorff told local outlet KEZI the following day.

While her husband and the other passenger survived, Pomeroy was not wearing a life jacket at the time. She was presumed dead after search and rescue teams found her body but were unable to recover it.

Pomeroy leaves behind her husband and daughter August, 23.

On Tuesday, July 16, Webster spoke to the New York Timessaid a branch in the water led to the fatal incident. He also spoke about her behavior in recent months.

“Naomi had a pretty deep understanding of the cool journey we’re on,” he told the newspaper. “She’s been more peaceful than ever in the last six months. She said she’s done everything she’s been asked to do here.”

In addition to his appearance on Bravos Top chef In 2011, at the age of 24, Pomeroy entered the world of professional cooking with Ripe Catering, founded in 1999.

Among other business ventures, Pomeroy opened a cafe and a casual restaurant called Beast, which later converted into a meal-prep marketplace called Ripe Cooperative.

In 2013, she and her husband opened their cocktail bar Expatriate.

A few years later, Pomeroy published her cookbook, Taste & Technologyin 2016. And in June she opened the frozen custard restaurant Cornet Custard.

“The Bravo and Top chef Family sends our deepest condolences to the family and friends of Chef Naomi Pomeroy. “Naomi was an outstanding chef who left a lasting mark on the culinary industry,” Bravo and the show said in a tweet Tuesday.
