Dead & Company will not broadcast their 24-show Sphere residency live

As the start of the 24 appointment Dead forever Staying in Las Vegas, NV Bullet Approaches, a social media post by Bob Weir has answered a question that has been echoing across Deadhead forums and fan groups for months: No, Dead & Society their Sphere shows will not be broadcast live. The decision represents a notable change of direction for Dead & Company, who have historically offered livestream options for most of their performances.

In the caption of an otherwise innocuous countdown post featuring past photos of Dead & Company’s live performances, Weir noted: “Count ’em… 7 days until (Sphere). … Sphere shows are not streamed online – you have to experience this live!”

Dead & Company will be the third band to perform a series of shows at the state-of-the-art entertainment arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. Famous Irish rock act U2 helped launch Sphere last year with a 40-show residency that extended through March 2024. While U2 hosted a short broadcast of Sphere in 2024 Grammy Award During the ceremony, none of the band’s 40 broadly similar shows at the venue were streamed in full. When Phish took over the venue for four shows in April 2024, the jam quartet offered pay-per-view livestreams of their performances, each featuring a unique setlist.

While Dead & Company promised when announcing the gig that each of the band’s eight three-day Sphere weekends would feature unique setlists, fans have speculated that these segments will look largely the same and will appeal to fans regardless of which weekend they take place on. offer a similar experience. Others have noted that Dead & Company may be foregoing livestream operations at Sphere due to a lack of demand, as tickets for most shows are still available through primary sources and the once-inflated secondary market is currently falling below par.
