Federal Funds to Support Fire Safety Improvements in Metro Atlanta

U.S. Senators Raphael Warnock and Jon Ossoff today announced federal grants for fire safety improvements in the Atlanta metropolitan area.

The City of Atlanta, City of Woodstock, DeKalb County and Butts County will receive funding to strengthen local fire departments and improve public safety through FEMA’s Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) program.

The funds can be used for job training, wellness and fitness programs, equipment, personal protective equipment (PPE) and facility modifications, according to a news release.

The grant amounts are:

City of Atlanta $272,727.27
City of Woodstock $54,523.63
DeKalb County $94,772.72
Butts County $136,154.54

“Firefighters across Georgia put their lives on the line to keep families safe,” Ossoff said in the press release. “Senator Warnock and I will never stop defending Georgia’s heroic fire departments, and these resources will help them respond to emergencies that threaten lives and property.”

“I am proud to have played a role in securing this critical funding. Our firefighters and emergency medical responders are among the best and bravest among us, and every fire department in Georgia, especially in our rural communities, should have the resources and support they need to protect our communities,” Warnock said in the statement.

Last month, Sen. Ossoff brought together Republicans and Democrats to pass the Fire To agreeRoad Safety and Workplace Safety Act, which would reauthorize major grant programs—like the Aid to Firefighters (AFG) program—that provide federal funding to Georgia fire departments.
