Woman arrested after arson between car and house

SARASOTA, Fla. (WWSB) – A woman is in jail facing arson charges after allegedly setting fire to a car and her home.

Rebecca M. Groh, 43, was arrested by Sarasota County Sheriff’s officers following the July 4 fire. A man who was working near the residence attempted to put out the fire but sustained some injuries. He was taken to the hospital for injuries.

Surveillance video from across the street showed Groh pulling into the driveway, getting out of her vehicle with a baseball bat and beginning to smash the cars in the driveway of the residence. She then appeared to pour a liquid over the car and parts of the building, setting the fire before fleeing the scene.

The homeowner was able to identify Rebecca from the Ring camera and said she had moved to Sarasota a month ago and had been acting erratically toward him and another person in the house. She had texted him death threats on the day of the fire.

Groh was arrested and charged with second-degree arson with assault.
