Investigation pending after homeless parents flee Wooster with 18-month-old child despite court order

HOLMES COUNTY, Ohio (WOIO) – A Wooster couple was arrested and released Monday after fleeing with their 18-month-old child, the Holmes County Sheriff’s Office said.

Deputies said the parents had received a court order to turn their toddler over to child welfare services because they were all homeless and living in a car.

The parents did not comply with the order, officials said, and instead fled to the Killbuck area.

The sheriff’s office said they tracked the family to the North Main Street (County Road 622) area and found them in their car.

Officials said the 18-month-old child was found unharmed in a car seat. The child was turned over to Wayne County Children’s Services.

According to the sheriff’s office, the parents were arrested and released pending the completion of the investigation.
