Man shot dead in Edgewood following basketball dispute, police say

The incident happened on July 14 in the city’s Edgewood neighborhood. Officers were called to a report of a person being shot on Hardee Street around 11:27 p.m. When officers arrived, a man was found with a gunshot wound to the stomach.

Police say a fight broke out between two men over a basketball. Officers say the basketball landed several times on the victim’s property, hitting his grill. The argument escalated and he was shot.

Emergency services arrived at the scene and transported the victim to hospital for treatment. The victim’s current condition has not been released.

Police are still trying to understand all the circumstances surrounding the shooting. The investigation is ongoing.
