Jon Jones charged with misdemeanor after alleged incident with drug testing agent

UFC heavyweight champion Jon Jones has been charged with two misdemeanors in connection with an incident involving a drug testing agent at his home on March 30.

The charges, confirmed by Bernalillo County District Court officials via email to MMA Fighting, include assault (a minor offense) and interference with communications (a misdemeanor). Jones’ virtual bail hearing is scheduled for July 17 at 9:15 a.m. MT in New Mexico.

If found guilty, Jones faces less than a year in prison and fines totaling $1,500 – $500 for the minor offense and $1,000 for the misdemeanor.

The incident involves drug testing agents from the UFC’s anti-doping partner, Drug Free Sport, visiting Jones’ home to collect a random sample.

According to Agent Crystal Martinez’s police report, Jones appeared agitated when he was unable to provide a urine sample and was offered a blood test instead.

Martinez reported that Jones began questioning the agents, asking them if they had any money because he planned to sue them.

She also claimed Jones grabbed her phone and started taking the recordings. Martinez described feeling “terrified” as Jones stood less than a foot away from her and feared he might hit her while she considered aborting the drug test and leaving the property.
