Donald Trump shot in the ear by a lone gunman. The former president is “fine”

WASHINGTON – Former President Donald Trump was “fine” Saturday night after suffering a gunshot wound to the ear in an assassination attempt.

The gunman, identified by the FBI as Thomas Matthew Crooks early Sunday morning, opened fire at a sweltering campaign rally in Pennsylvania and was killed by Secret Service agents, officials said. One bystander was killed and two others were “seriously injured,” the Secret Service said.

“It is unbelievable that such an act could take place in our country. Nothing is known at this time about the shooter, who is now dead,” Trump said on Truth Social.

“I was hit by a bullet that pierced the upper part of my right ear,” Trump said on Truth Social, adding that he “immediately felt the bullet go through the skin.”

President Joe Biden condemned the shooting, telling reporters: “The idea – the idea – that there is political violence or violence like this in America is just outrageous, it’s just not appropriate. Everybody, everybody needs to condemn it. Everyone.”

Trump was bleeding when shots were fired, spokesman says he is fine

The former president was speaking at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, when shots rang out and the likely Republican nominee for the 2024 presidential election grabbed his right ear before falling to the ground.

Trump’s ear and face were bloodied moments later when a Secret Service cordon helped him to his feet.

Trump raised his fist defiantly in the air as he was pushed off the stage and out of the rally.

“It is unbelievable that such an act could take place in our country. Nothing is known at this time about the shooter, who is now dead,” Trump said in a statement on Truth Social.

“I was hit by a bullet that pierced the top of my right ear. I knew immediately something was wrong because I heard a whooshing sound, gunshots and immediately felt the bullet go through the skin,” he wrote. “There was severe bleeding so I realized what was happening. GOD BLESS AMERICA!”

“President Trump thanks law enforcement and first responders for their quick action during this heinous act,” Trump spokesman Steven Cheung said in a statement Saturday. “He is doing well and is being evaluated at a local medical facility.”

President Biden condemns “political violence”

In a speech in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, President Joe Biden condemned the attack.

“There is no place for this kind of violence in America. It is sick. It is sick,” Biden told reporters.

“That’s one of the reasons why we have to unite this country. We can’t allow this to happen. We can’t be like this. We can’t tolerate this.”
