Ghaziabad: 14-year-old girl raped, police file complaint

Ghaziabad: The Sahibabad police have registered a first-in-come-first-served report (FIR) under sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act against an unidentified person for raping and impregnating a 14-year-old girl, officials familiar with the case said, adding that the police have taken note of a memo from a hospital and registered the case.

The police registered the FIR on their own initiative as neither the victim nor her family filed a complaint. Officials said they received a treatment letter from a hospital at Sahibabad police station on Thursday (July 11) stating that a minor girl in the sixth month of her pregnancy had given birth to a child who had died.

“One of our teams started an investigation and contacted the girl’s family. We asked the family about the girl’s pregnancy and also about the suspect. They refused to reveal details and did not cooperate. Finally, we filed an FIR on our own against an unidentified suspect. The DNA sample of the dead fetus was also collected to match it with the suspect in future. The girl was six months pregnant when her family brought her to the hospital,” said Rajneesh Upadhyaya, ACP, Sahibabad Circle.

The FIR was registered under Section 65(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (rape of a woman below 16 years of age), apart from the provisions of the Pocso Act.

“We have informed the child protection committee and are also trying to arrange a counselling session for the girl and her family. Their statements will be crucial for the investigation and also for knowing about the suspect. It seems that the family knows about the suspect. Either out of fear or maybe the suspect has links with the family. They are not revealing any details,” the ACP added.
