Three people arrested after attempting to rob ATM technician – WSOC TV

PINEVILLE, NC — People were arrested in connection with an ATM scam that authorities say extends beyond the Charlotte area.

The suspects are accused of ambushing an employee who was repairing local ATMs.

According to Glenn Counts of Channel 9, robberies of this type are occurring across the country.

The most recent attempted attack occurred around 2 p.m. Friday at Wells Fargo across the street from Carolina Place Mall, according to Pineville police.

Police said 19-year-old Isaiah Lovings, 24-year-old Keithrick Williams and 20-year-old Trenald Zeshawn Robinson Ramirez were charged with criminal conspiracy. They are both from the Houston area.

These men are accused of traveling across the country trying to scam ATM technicians who carry large amounts of cash to refill the machines.

They inserted a card coated with superglue into the ATM, thereby disabling it. They then waited for the technician to come and fix the machine and rob them.

Investigators said the group stole $200,000 in a successful robbery in Richmond, Virginia.

Residents in the area said they found this case very disturbing.

“This is scary. Like I said, I go to the ATM because I work all week and can’t go to the bank. If they do this, what if my bank card gets stuck? Anything can happen,” said ATM user Jeanine Lytle.

The three men are currently only facing charges locally. However, the FBI has been called in to assist in this case.
