An eight-year-old child died in a head-on collision on Route 106 in Loudon on Friday evening.

State police said a Toyota 4Runner driven by Stacy Sargent, 52, and a Mazda 3 driven by Philip Sparacio, 36, collided around 6:30 p.m.

“Preliminary investigation indicates that the Mazda 3 was traveling south when it crossed the center line and collided head-on with the Toyota 4Runner, which was traveling north,” state police said.

Three people in the Mazda 3, including two children with life-threatening injuries, were taken to hospital. An eight-year-old child was pronounced dead at the hospital. Two people in the 4Runner were taken to hospital with serious injuries, police said.

Loudon Police, Loudon Fire and EMS, and emergency personnel from surrounding communities arrived at the scene.

Loudon police requested assistance from the State Police Accident Analysis and Reconstruction Division in the investigation. Route 106 was closed for several hours while emergency responders tended to the injured and investigated the cause of the fatal crash.
