OAKLAND — One man died and 19 other residents were left homeless when a fire broke out at a West Oakland duplex Friday morning, officials said.

The name of the deceased 39-year-old man was not immediately released pending notification of his family.

The fire broke out around 3:15 a.m. Friday morning in a two-story Victorian building that had been converted into a duplex in the 1200 block of 12th Street, officials said.
