New Age | Four people killed in road accident in Patiya

Four people were killed in a head-on collision between a natural gas-powered auto rickshaw and a truck loaded with sand on the Patiya-Boalkhali Regional Road in Patiya in Chattogram, police said.

The accident occurred on Thursday night.

Three of the dead were identified as Rumi Akthtar, 30, and her son Fahim, 5, from Junglakhaine area in Patiya upazila of the district, and auto-rickshaw driver Anowar Hossain, 40, a resident of Boalkhali upazila of the same district.

Confirming the incident on Friday, Patiya police station officer-in-charge Jasim Uddin said the collision occurred around 11.30 pm on Thursday when the speeding truck collided with the oncoming autorickshaw in front of a paper mill at the Dakshin end of the military basin, leaving three people dead on the spot.

Another person succumbed to his injuries on the way to hospital, he said, adding that all the victims were passengers and the driver of the autorickshaw.

Another person was injured in the accident and was taken to Chittagong Medical College Hospital, said Saiful Islam, a Patiya Fire and Civil Defence official who was part of the rescue team.
