Fox in Herkimer tests positive for rabies after attacking dog | Local

HERKIMER, NY – The Herkimer County Health Department announced that a fox from the Village of Herkimer tested positive for rabies on Wednesday.

“The rabid fox was killed by Herkimer Police on July 6, 2024, after it was observed to be behaving aggressively and attacking a dog,” the health department said in a press release.

It is possible that the same fox had also attacked individual animals the day before.

The fox was sent to Wadsworth State Labs by the Herkimer County Health Department on July 9.

The exact location where the fox was discovered has not been disclosed.
