Portland man dies in riding lawnmower accident in Callaway County – KXEO

A Portland, Missouri man was killed in an accident in Callaway County on Wednesday evening, July 10, 2024.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol accident report, the accident occurred at 10970 Oak Lane in Portland as 64-year-old George R. Ward was driving his Dixie Chopper lawn mower north along the lakeshore.

The mower began to slide down the hill and tipped into the lake, and Ward became trapped under the mower.

A Boone County coroner pronounced Ward dead at the scene.
