UCLA student sexually assaulted in campus housing, suspect arrested | State

Los Angeles, California – A UCLA student was sexually assaulted in her campus apartment early on the morning of July 5 and the suspect was arrested, according to UCLA police.

The incident occurred at approximately 2:40 a.m. when a suspect not affiliated with the group entered an apartment at the UCLA Saxon Suites and assaulted the student. The suspect, identified as 41-year-old Jeffery Brewer Jr. of Los Angeles, California, fled the scene but was tracked down and arrested later that evening at approximately 9:45 p.m. The victim and two witnesses positively identified Brewer.

Brewer has been charged with multiple offenses, including assault with intent to commit a crime, false imprisonment, burglary and sexual abuse. He is currently being held at the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department Inmate Reception Center. Bail is set at $1,050,000, according to the LASD Inmate Locator website.

Los Angeles District Attorney George Gascón announced that Brewer was charged with breaking into a UCLA dormitory and sexually assaulting one of the two exchange students living there. “The brutal and violent sexual assault this survivor suffered at the hands of the alleged suspect is deeply disturbing and incomprehensible and will not be tolerated,” Gascón said. “Our thoughts are with the victims and students during this incredibly difficult time.”

Brewer was arraigned on July 9 and pleaded not guilty to all charges. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for August 13 in Department 31 of Airport Court. If convicted, Brewer faces a maximum sentence of 25 years to life plus six years in prison.
