Guitarist of legendary rock band sued for “tragic accident” that killed a man

Guitarist Josh Klinghoffer, who is currently touring with Pearl Jam, is facing a lawsuit from the family of a man he hit and killed in a traffic accident in March.

According to multiple reports, Israel Sanchez’s family filed suit in Los Angeles Superior on Wednesday, claiming that Klinghoffer was “likely driving while distracted” and “used a device just seconds before he struck Sanchez,” “he was on his way to the store to get soup for his family.”

PEOPLE Magazine The indictment alleges that Klinghoffer “did not brake or slow down until he hit Sanchez.” Sanchez reportedly died of blunt force trauma to the head.

Klinghoffer’s lawyer Andrew Brettler called it “a tragic accident.”

“After Josh struck this pedestrian in the intersection, he immediately pulled over, stopped the car, called 911 and waited for the police and ambulance to arrive,” Brettler told TMZ. “Of course, he is cooperating with the police throughout the traffic investigation. This was a completely tragic accident.”

The 44-year-old Klinghoffer has also played with the Red Hot Chili Peppers and Jane’s Addiction.
