Man arrested for attempted sexual assault of 5-year-old girl in South Yarmouth Park – Boston News, Weather, Sports

YARMOUTH, MASS. (WHDH) – A man was arrested in connection with an attempted sexual assault of a 5-year-old child at a South Yarmouth park Tuesday night, police said.

Ryan Evans of South Yarmouth was arrested after allegedly luring a child behind the restrooms during a soccer game at Peter Homer Park. The child screamed and chased Evans away, according to Yarmouth police. Witnesses said they saw him ride away on an electric bike.

Officers arrived at the scene shortly before 8 p.m. and emergency responders examined the child for possible injuries, police said. Officers canvassed the area, searching for Evans in nearby residential areas, parks, businesses and bike paths.

“While officers were checking the area, tips came in from social media,” Yarmouth police said in a statement.

According to police, plainclothes officers and several bicycle patrols were on duty during the night from Tuesday to Wednesday and Wednesday.

On Wednesday, shortly before 7 p.m., police stopped Evans and arrested him.

Yarmouth officers “know Evans and have interacted with him in the past,” police said. In 2021, Evans was charged with unarmed burglary and assault, child abuse, assault and criminal damage and theft.

Evans is scheduled to be arraigned in Barnstable District Court on Thursday.
