Manhunt launched for suspected crossbow-wielding suspect who killed BBC presenter’s family

A manhunt is currently underway for a suspected murderer who shot the wife and two daughters of a BBC commentator with a crossbow near London on Tuesday. Police described the attack as a “targeted” attack.

Officers are searching for 26-year-old Kyle Clifford, who is suspected of murdering a 25-year-old, a 28-year-old and a 61-year-old in Bushey, Hertfordshire, police said in a statement.

The three victims died at the scene of the accident. Authorities believe the victims are the wife and two daughters of BBC Five Live racing commentator John Hunt.

Officials believe the weapon used in the attack was a crossbow, but other weapons may have been involved.

The police arrived at the scene of the accident at around 7 p.m. and found three people seriously injured.

Police are currently concentrating their search efforts on north London and Bushey, Hertfordshire.

If anyone sees Clifford, officers are asking them to call 999. They are also advised not to approach Clifford as “he may still be in possession of a weapon.”

“Kyle, if you see or hear this, please contact the police,” Hertfordshire Police Chief Jon Simpson said at a press conference on Wednesday.

Officials are also launching an investigation into the incident.

“Our investigation will continue over the coming days to establish the exact circumstances of the incident,” Detective Superintendent Rob Hall of the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Major Crime Unit said in a statement.

Oliver Dowden, MP for the area before the boundary change, posted on X about the incident.

“I am deeply concerned by the tragic reports of the murder of three women in Bushey last night,” Dowden wrote.

He expressed his condolences to the families and friends of the victims, prayed for them and said he would stand by the community during this “difficult” time.

“We are deeply shocked and saddened by the tragic news that three women have lost their lives in a violent incident in the heart of our community,” said the region’s local councillors.

Hunt is a radio presenter who specialises in horse racing such as the Grand National.

ITV reported that the BBC described the killings as “utterly devastating” in a note to staff.

NBC News reported that the murder rate in Britain is more than six times lower than in the United States.

Killings by crossbows are even rarer. Between 2011 and 2021, there were fewer than ten killings in the UK.
