“Rapist police officer” in custody – Newsday Zimbabwe

The three police officers from the Chituripasi police station in Beitbridge East, accused of raping an 18-year-old woman three times last month, have been remanded in custody until July 23 this year after the Attorney-General’s Office failed to grant their bail within the deadline.

The three police officers from the Chituripasi police station in Beitbridge East, accused of raping an 18-year-old woman three times last month, have been remanded in custody until July 23 this year after the Attorney-General’s Office failed to grant their bail within the deadline.

The State had agreed to release the accused Courage Majoni, Jabulani Museba and Enock Nyamupandu on bail.

“I apologize for coming late, but I have still not received any bail order for the three clients,” their lawyer Muchihwande Sithole told the regional magistrate Innocent Bepura, asking for a reduction in the remand period for his clients. But prosecutor Tsitsi Mutukwa insisted on the traditional two-week remand period.

The officers deny the allegations that they raped the plaintiff during her visit to her aunt at the police headquarters.

It is alleged that on June 5 this year, Museba sneaked into a bathroom where the plaintiff was bathing and raped her once before threatening to shoot her and her aunt if they reported the case.

Three days later, Majoni allegedly abused the woman in the same manner. On June 13, Nyamupandu allegedly raped her once at knifepoint after sneaking into the house. The complainant, who lives in Bulawayo, reported the alleged abuse to her mother when she returned to the city. The incident was reported to the Western Commonage police station, which led to the arrest of the trio.
