Lagos APC denies suspension of members

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State has stated that no member of the party has been suspended by its chairman, Cornelius Ojelabi.

The party’s spokesperson, Seye Oladejo, in a statement described the alleged suspension of thousands of party members from Alimosho Local Government by the State Chairman as false and untrue.

According to him, the party chairman has no authority to unilaterally suspend a party member. He added that the party’s statutes do not contain any such provision.

He added: “Our attention has been drawn to the false report doing the rounds that the National Chairman has allegedly suspended thousands of party members from Alimosho Local Government.

“We wish to state unequivocally that there is no truth in the allegations. The Chairman of the APC in Lagos State, Cornelius Ojelabi, remains committed to the unity of the party and actions that enable peaceful coexistence of all members.

“As a political party with members with different agendas, the APC will naturally have disputes and suspicions, but these can always be resolved within the framework of the constitutional provisions.

“The chairman is an experienced person in party politics and party leadership and is always ready to give in and take all opinions into account without trampling on the rights of others.

“He believes that the interests of the political groups should not be more important than those of the party, which maintains cohesion among members and ensures that we act as a check on our elected and appointed government representatives in terms of service delivery.

“There is no provision in the party’s statutes that would allow the chairman to unilaterally suspend a member.”

He therefore advised the public to ignore polarising statements as they aim to create an imagined conflict and deliberate untruths that are essentially self-serving.
