One dead in Union County shooting

UNION COUNTY, SC (WSPA) – Authorities are still investigating this morning after a person was shot in Union Saturday evening.

According to the Union Public Safety Department, officers were called to a shooting on Cottage Avenue in Union around 11:38 p.m. Saturday.

At the scene, officers found 34-year-old Rodney Cornelius Whitener of Union lying in the grass with a gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Union Public Safety Department has asked SLED to assist in its investigation. No one has been arrested yet and the shooting remains under investigation.
