Pennsylvania man arrested after being shot at Wellsville party

A shooting at a party Wednesday night near Wellsville led to the arrest of a Pennsylvania man on multiple charges, Amity State Police reported.

Gregory S. Miller, 54, of Penndel, near Philadelphia, was charged with second-degree attempted murder, first-degree assault, first-degree reckless endangerment, first-degree criminal use of a weapon and two counts of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon. He is being held in the Allegany County Jail on $100,000 bail.

Police said the shooting around 9:45 p.m. on Smith Hollow Road in the town of Wellsville happened after Miller got into an argument with a 48-year-old man after several hours of drinking.

Police say Miller walked to his truck, pulled out a Springfield Armory .45 ACP pistol and shot the other man multiple times, hitting him once in the lower left leg.

Others at the party disarmed Miller and held him on the ground until officers arrived and took him into custody, cops said.

The victim was transported to Jones Memorial Hospital in Wellsville with a non-life threatening injury and was later transferred to Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester for further treatment.
