DOT honors worker killed on I-91 ramp at Connecticut rest stop – NBC Connecticut

The state Department of Transportation is honoring a worker who was struck and killed last week while working on the Interstate 91 ramp in Wallingford.

In a tweet, the Department of Transportation said it would honor Andrew DiDomenico by placing a black sash and orange ribbon on memorials to fallen workers at rest areas and service stations across the state.

DiDomenico, 26, of Meriden, was struck and killed last week while working on the Wharton Brook Connector.

State police said he was working on the side of the Exit 13 ramp, picking up trash for mowing crews, when a vehicle left the road and struck him around 9:17 a.m. last Friday. He died at the scene.

The driver accused of hitting DiDomenico remained at the scene. Denise Lucibello, 55, failed a breathalyzer test, according to Connecticut State Police.

In court on Monday, Lucibello’s lawyer acknowledged a prior criminal history, as well as substance abuse and mental health issues. Her bail was reduced to $500,000 on the condition that she not drive a motor vehicle.

She is due to appear in court again on August 23.
