This is a developing story. We will update you with more information as we receive more confirmed information.

What is a severe weather warning?

The 12News Weather Impact Team works to keep you safe and alert you to impending weather hazards.

Our goal is to make sure you have the most accurate and up-to-date information about the weather and how it affects you. Weather alerts are just that: warnings as early as possible so you can be armed with accurate information to protect yourself and your family.

A “weather warning” is simply a day, or even part of a day, when we expect weather that you need to prepare for or change your plans. This could be as simple as letting you know that you’ll need an umbrella for a few hours in the afternoon.

When will there be severe weather warnings?

You may receive a full day weather warning from our 12News Weather Impact Team, meaning severe weather is approaching and you need to take action. Or you may receive a weather warning from us for a few hours on a specific day, meaning you may need to adjust some plans during that time period.

In any case, we will provide you with detailed information about when the threat occurs, how it affects you and what you need to do.

We call these details “WIN,” which stands for …

  • WHEN: What day or time will this happen?
  • EFFECTS: What impact will it have on you?
  • NEED: What do you have to do?

Regardless of the warning, you are warned of any weather that could affect you and your family.

We're excited to share another way 12News is helping to keep you protected and informed about impending weather threats.
