Goa: Man arrested for sexually abusing a deaf-mute woman

Panaji, July 5. Goa police on Friday arrested a man for allegedly sexually assaulting a deaf-mute woman.

A police official told IANS that the accused was a relative of the victim and had sexually abused her last year and again a month ago.

“Since she cannot speak, we have taken the help of a non-governmental organization and an interpreter. Based on this information, we have arrested an accused who is a relative of the victim,” police said.

According to police, the incidents took place when the accused visited the victim’s house. “One incident took place late last year and the second last month. We have recorded her statement and are investigating the case further,” police said.

Police said the accused was remanded in custody for five days.

The Ponda police in South Goa are investigating the case.
