As was announced last night, an armed police officer was arrested on suspicion of rape.

The suspended officer was arrested last month and released on bail to return to duty in September. A Metropolitan Police spokesman told the Mirror: “A serving Metropolitan officer has been arrested on suspicion of rape and other offences.”

“The officer was arrested on Monday, June 24. He was released on bail and is due to return in mid-September pending further investigations. He has been suspended from duty.”

The Met has informed the Independent Office for Police Conduct. An IOPC spokesperson said: “We received a mandatory conduct referral from the Metropolitan Police Service on 26 June 2024 following the arrest of a Met officer on suspicion of a number of criminal offences earlier in the week.”

“After carefully considering the referral, we have decided that the Met should continue its investigation as the officer has already been arrested and questioned by the Met’s Directorate of Professional Standards.”
