Another Med Spa in Port St. Lucie is under investigation

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. – Another Port St. Lucie medical spa facility is currently under police investigation. We’ve learned that a search warrant was executed last week at Elite Top Aesthetics on US-1 north of Port St. Lucie Boulevard.

“We are currently working with the Department of Health and the investigation is ongoing,” said Port St. Lucie Police Chief Richard Del Toro.

An affidavit stated that police officers arrested a woman named Kiomy Quintiana at Elite Top Aesthetics for practicing medicine without a license and aggravated assault.

The affidavit states that she was found at the home of “Dr. Adley.” Her husband, Adley DaSilva, was never actually licensed to practice medicine.

We checked with the health department and his license as a medical assistant was revoked last year.

The couple were among four people arrested last month in connection with the closure of Cosmetica, another medical spa facility on Port St. Lucie Boulevard.

“Within a matter of days, a new store opened and that is exactly what we are currently looking into,” said Del Toro.

We have told you the stories of two women who claim that operations at Cosmetica were botched.

“Absolutely frustrating. This is pure fraud and unfortunately it’s happening in our backyard,” said attorney Casey Williams, who represents five women who he said were scarred beyond just their physical appearance. “These individuals suffered serious internal injuries that will stay with them for the rest of their lives.”

Dr. Alan Durkin founded Ocean Drive Med Spa in Vero Beach. He also founded the MedSpa Network, a national training organization, and is chairman of plastic surgery at Cleveland Clinic Indian River Hospital.

“The first is the qualification, the second is the specialization, the third is the facility,” Durkin said. “You want to see if that facility is correlative and focused on aesthetics, because if that’s the case, their focus is usually on the safety of the aesthetics.”

Since our first story on the Cosmetica case aired last month, 31 more potential victims have told investigators their stories.

“I’m grateful that these victims have come forward and I’m grateful to our news partners for bringing the story to the public because I think it encourages more people and gives them the courage to come forward,” Del Toro said.

Durkin said cosmetic or plastic surgery can be a good thing in the right hands, but you have to make sure those hands are trained.

“And if you don’t complete the mobile training, you shouldn’t expect good results or a safe protocol,” Durkin said.

When I stopped by Elite Top Aesthetics on Wednesday, a receptionist at the chiropractor’s office that shares the space informed me that no one had been there since last Friday.
