Nancy Santos charged after several animals found dead and dozens rescued from her home in Galloway Township, NJ

GALLOWAY TWP., New Jersey (WPVI) – An Atlantic County woman is in custody after dozens of animals were rescued from inhumane conditions and several others were found dead in her home.

On Monday, Galloway Township police executed a search warrant for a home in the 300 block of Cresson Avenue.

The search warrant was the result of an ongoing investigation after police said they received several reports of animals living in poor conditions.

According to authorities, seven dogs and 29 cats were rescued from the shelter.

Investigators also reportedly found two dead dogs, a dead cat and four dead kittens in a freezer.

The woman living in the home, 57-year-old Nancy Santos, was taken into custody and charged with 43 counts of animal neglect.

“The Galloway Township Police Department remains committed to investigating every report of animal cruelty in our community,” Police Chief Richard D. Barber said in a post on Facebook. “To fulfill this commitment, we recently trained two additional officers for our HLEO unit.”
