According to authorities, two Warren police officers were on patrol on Eight Mile Road near Mound Road when they saw three Dodge Chargers speeding behind each other, possibly racing. Police attempted to make a traffic stop for reckless driving and turned on their lights, causing one Charger to stop and the other two to speed away.

According to police, one of the Chargers crashed into a Jeep that was turning onto 10 Mile Road. The driver of the Jeep was injured and the passenger, Katrina Michael, 42, was killed.

Police said the pursuit was called off when the accident occurred. The third Charger has not been found.

The chase lasted three minutes.

According to police, the Chargers were already traveling at a significantly higher speed before the pursuit began.

James Hudson, a 26-year-old Pontiac man who allegedly drove the Charger that struck the Jeep, was taken into custody and charged with first-degree premeditated murder, three counts of second-degree fleeing and eluding, and three counts of reckless driving causing serious bodily harm.

His bail was set at $1 million. Hudson’s preliminary examination is scheduled for July 23.
