Paramus Catholic athlete dies months after parents die in car accident

Khameryn Oliver, a 17-year-old Paramus Catholic High School athlete who had been in a coma since the March 16 five-car crash in Kearny that killed her mother and father, died Wednesday night, her grandmother Karen said Oliver.

Oliver sent a text message to NorthJersey.com saying her granddaughter had succumbed to her injuries.

“No person or family should ever have to endure this much loss and pain,” her uncle Robert Oliver posted on social media. “We prayed and God brought our dear, sweet Kham Kham to her final resting place along with her dear, sweet parents.”

Kameryn was part of the shuttle hurdle relay for a Paramus Catholic indoor track and field team that punched its ticket to a national track and field tournament. She was also a talented volleyball player. Her family had started a fundraising campaign for Kameryn in anticipation of a long rehabilitation period.

Khameryn, her father Rhakeem Oliver and her mother Shavonn Stewart-Oliver had left their West Orange home early Saturday morning to go to a volleyball tournament.

The family, described by friends and colleagues as lovely, was traveling when they were involved in a five-car accident on County Road 508 in Kearny, also known as the Newark-Jersey City Turnpike. The accident is being investigated.

Rhakeem Oliver was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident on March 16. Shavonn Stewart-Oliver, an assistant principal at a school in Passaic, died nearly a week later. She was initially rescued from the rubble and had spoken to officials in the week before her death.
