2 missing Georgia firefighters, Reagan Anderson and Chandler Kuhbander, found dead

Two Georgia firefighters who were a couple in high school were found dead in Tennessee on Sunday.

Hinesville police in Georgia said in a statement Sunday that firefighters Reagan Anderson and Chandler Kuhbander were found dead in Cocke County, Tennessee, east of Gatlinburg. Officials said their bodies were recovered along with Anderson’s car, which police said they had been searching for since it was last spotted outside a local gym last week.

“We extend our deepest condolences to the Anderson and Kuhbander families during this incredibly difficult time,” Hinesville police said.

Anderson and Kuhbander had been together for seven years since high school, Kuhbander’s parents told local station WJCL last week.

“I’m so scared,” Jane Kuhbander, Chandler’s mother, told the outlet during the search for her son and his girlfriend. “I just want them home.”

Kuhbander’s mother told WJCL that she last spoke to her son last Monday morning, when he told her that Anderson had been constantly calling him and threatening himself.

“He told me that she had blown up his phone and that she had threatened to commit suicide,” Kuhbander’s mother told the outlet. “And it’s not the first time she’s done this.”

Two days earlier, on Saturday, June 22, Anderson was reportedly arrested after allegedly scratching Kuhbander’s car while he was on a date with another woman. Kuhbander’s mother told WJCL that Anderson paid bail after being charged with criminal damage and disturbing the peace.

Anderson was last seen on Monday morning, June 24, when she and Kuhbander were spotted by security cameras in their car in the parking lot outside his gym. Kuhbander’s parents told WJCL they have reviewed the surveillance footage.

“At 11:40 a.m. my son leaves the building and looks very relaxed, like he just had a workout,” Kuhbander’s mother said. “He doesn’t look rushed as he walks through the parking lot. After that we don’t see him again.”

Kuhbander’s mother added: “You don’t want to be in that situation. And when you see it on TV, I can understand how they feel. Then you realise that I am that person. I actually feel that way. It’s awful and you don’t have any answers.”

Hinesville police said investigators in the state of Tennessee are examining the crime scene. “Details regarding the discovery of the bodies and vehicle, as well as the circumstances leading to their deaths, are not available at this time.”
