Mount Holly shuts down recycling services – WSOC TV

MOUNT HOLLY, NC – Starting tomorrow, July 1, curbside recycling pickup will no longer be available to Mount Holly residents.

The decision was made during the city council’s working session on Monday.

A proposal that would have increased residents’ recycling rate by 87% next year was unanimously rejected.

Most recently, residents paid $5.18 per month for bi-monthly curbside pickup.

Under the new contract proposal, residents would have been charged $9.71 per month.

A press release from the city attributes the price increases for recycling services to a change in the recycling market in 2018.

Surrounding cities such as Gastonia, Shelby, Kings Mountain and Bessemer City have also recently suspended their curbside recycling services for similar reasons.

The city announces that the blue recycling bins are currently not being collected and that citizens should keep them until further notice.

Regular garbage collection for residents in their green bins will not be interrupted.
