Ciro Immobile suffers back and rib injuries after car accident in Rome

Lazio captain Ciro Immobile was hospitalized with back and rib injuries after his car caused an accident in Rome in which a tram hit him.

In a statement, the club confirmed that the 33-year-old was being examined at the city’s Gemelli University Hospital following the accident.

Photos released by local media show police at the scene of a collision between a tram and a badly damaged Land Rover SUV allegedly belonging to Immobile.

A statement published on Lazio’s official website read: “The Lazio medical staff announces that football player Ciro Immobile suffered a spinal strain and an open fracture of the right XI rib today as a result of a road accident.

“The condition is currently good. The player continues to be observed in the Department of Emergency Medicine under the direction of Professor Francesco Franceschi of the Policlinico Universitario Agostino Gemelli IRCCS in Rome.”

Immobile last played on Friday evening and scored in his side’s 3-0 win over Spezia, cementing their second place in Serie A.
