Man dies in accidental shooting

A man who accidentally shot himself in a Homestead home this morning has died.

Shortly after 9 a.m., police were called to a home in the 20600 block of North Wilford Avenue because a person had reportedly been shot.

According to police spokeswoman Monica Williams, officers found an adult man with a single gunshot wound to the chest.

“Based on the preliminary investigation, officers believe the man was cleaning or assembling his weapon and accidentally discharged a shot,” Williams said. “He was taken to the hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.”
