Former Army doctor sentenced to 30 years in prison for attacking his wife in Virginia – NBC4 Washington

A man who once worked as a doctor at Fort Belvoir in the US state of Virginia was sentenced to 30 years in prison on Friday for attacking and beating his wife and tying her with duct tape to a pole in the couple’s basement.

This is the second case in which Dr. Drew Steiner has been convicted of attacking a woman. He is already serving a 10-year prison sentence for an attack on a victim he met online in August 2020.

During the trial in that case, his wife testified that Steiner attacked her in their home in September 2020. She testified that Steiner had just recovered from COVID-19 when he asked to come out of quarantine and into her bedroom, she said.

Suddenly Steiner pushed her onto the bed, she said, explaining to the jury: “I said, ‘Please, I’m not well. I can’t breathe,’ and he said, ‘That’s the point.'”

She testified that Steiner later hit her with a sandal that she wanted to use in her defense. “He grabbed a sandal and started hitting me very hard on my ear and head. Everything was spinning. I was just waiting for the next blow and the next blow. I tried with all my might not to faint.”

She testified that her husband led her into different rooms of the house. In a bathroom, she grabbed a spray can to defend herself, but he told her: “If you use that, I’ll smash your face, and you know it.”

Eventually, Steiner took her to the basement, tied her to a post with duct tape, turned off the lights and left, she said. She was able to free herself and ran to a neighbor’s house for help.

In October, a jury found Steiner guilty of kidnapping with intent to defile, willful injury and attempted rape. He was sentenced on Friday to 30 years in prison.

In November 2022, he was convicted of rape and illegal video recording in the case of the woman he met online.
