Teenager seriously injured in stabbing in Lafayette

LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Lafayette police are investigating after a teenager was seriously injured in an incident in the 300 block of North 3rd Street on Thursday.

A Lafayette police spokesman said it was reported around 1:30 p.m. that officers found a 17-year-old man who had been stabbed. He was taken by ambulance to a hospital where he is reportedly in critical condition.

The spokesman said investigators took a suspect into custody on Thursday in connection with the incident. A 16-year-old boy is tentatively charged with aggravated assault, assault with a deadly weapon and criminal recklessness with a deadly weapon.

The police said that the two people allegedly involved in the incident knew each other. The spokesman did not provide any information about the circumstances of the stabbing.

Police said they are continuing to collect evidence and interview witnesses and that the investigation is ongoing.
