Suspect arrested in connection with fatal shooting in Richmond Sunday night in Nebraska

(KRON) — A man has been arrested in connection with a shooting that occurred Sunday night in Richmond, the Richmond Police Department (RPD) said Thursday. The shooting, which occurred around 11:30 p.m. in the 3400 block of Richmond Parkway, left one victim dead and another taken to the hospital where he is expected to survive his injuries.

Arcenio Fernandez Marquez, 30, of Richmond was arrested Tuesday in Nebraska. The slain victim was identified as Elizander Narvaez Fernandez, according to RPD.

The suspect was arrested near Ogallala, where a license plate reader indicated his vehicle was in the area. Authorities then “quickly” took him into custody, where he currently remains pending his return to California, RPD said.

An investigation revealed that the victim and the suspect knew each other, police said. The shooting occurred after an argument broke out at a party. Marquez allegedly shot two victims before fleeing the scene.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the victim’s family and we hope this arrest brings closure to the incident,” RPD said in a Facebook post.

Sunday’s shooting capped a seven-day period of violence in the city. Richmond police also responded to fatal shootings on June 18 and 19.

At least three people were killed within these two days.
