Priest filmed himself sexually abusing a child

MANATEE COUNTY, Fla. (WWSB) – Palmetto pastor Jonathan Edward Elwing was arrested by Manatee County Sheriff’s Office Internet Crimes Against Children detectives for possession of child pornography. Detectives say he filmed himself sexually abusing a child.

Elwing is a 43-year-old pastor of Palm View Baptist Church and resigned from his ministry before he was arrested.

On June 20, investigators received information that Elwing had used cryptocurrency to purchase child sexual abuse material online.

On June 21, a search warrant was issued for the church and Elwing’s home. Investigators found four sexually explicit images of children on his cell phone.

There was sufficient probable cause to charge Elwing with possession of child pornography. He was taken into custody at the Manatee County Jail.

On June 27, while the investigation continued, Elwing was charged with two counts of sexual assault, six counts of producing child sexual abuse material, and six counts of possession of child sexual abuse material.

A forensic search of the former pastor’s cell phone revealed images of him sexually abusing a child as well as the production and possession of twelve child pornography images.

Investigators continue to examine Elwing’s cell phone and the investigation is ongoing.
