Coroner names man killed by sheriff’s deputy in Milwaukee

The man shot by a Milwaukee County sheriff’s deputy Sunday has been identified as Steven A. Wyman, 47, of Slinger.

Wyman was identified Wednesday by the Milwaukee County Coroner’s Office. The Journal Sentinel could not immediately reach members of his family.

The Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Office said earlier that a deputy shot multiple times Sunday evening at a man wanted on suspicion of domestic violence who had led officers on a chase at nearly 100 miles per hour. According to department spokesman James Burnett, a knife belonging to the man was recovered after the shooting.

According to Police Chief Dean Schmidt, Sunday’s incident stemmed from a “domestic dispute” in the village of Slinger. He did not elaborate, citing an ongoing investigation.
