Two little girls were killed in a Lakewood home, sources say – NBC New York

Sources told NBC New York that a woman was taken into custody after two little girls were killed in her New Jersey home.

According to sources and law enforcement officials, the heartbreaking scene was uncovered Tuesday night at the home on Shenandoah Drive near Rockbridge Road in Lakewood.

Law enforcement sources familiar with the investigation told NBC New York that a woman has been taken into custody in connection with the double murder of the two girls, both of whom were three years old or younger. Sources said the gruesome killing appeared to involve drowning and stabbing, with one or both children possibly stabbed to death, though the cause and manner of the girls’ deaths was not immediately clear.

At one point, more than a dozen officers from the Ocean County Sheriff’s Office and Lakewood Police Department were seen standing in the driveway, entering and exiting the home while patrol cars lined the block.

The sources did not provide details about the woman’s relationship to the children, but it is believed that she may be related to the toddlers; it was not clear whether she was the girls’ mother. It was not known what charges the woman might face.

Further details about the disturbing incident were not immediately available. Lakewood police only confirmed that they were investigating the deaths of two young children and referred questions to the Ocean County District Attorney’s Office. Calls and messages from NBC New York to the Ocean County District Attorney’s Office were not immediately returned.

The investigation was still ongoing.
