NC 147 in Durham near Swift Ave. closed due to death investigation

DURHAM, NC (WNCN) — A section of northbound NC Highway 147, also known as the Durham Freeway, is closed near Swift Avenue early Saturday morning due to the investigation into a death.

According to Durham Police, officers responded to a “crisis call” at that location around 2:20 a.m. When they arrived on scene, they found a man dead.

Police said the man’s cause of death was not yet known.

The North Carolina Department of Transportation’s live traffic map shows the northbound lanes of the highway closed on a stretch up to the Swift Avenue exit (Exit 4) and slightly beyond.

According to NCDOT, traffic impacts are expected to be significant and the closure is expected to last until approximately 10 a.m.

Durham Police said traffic is being diverted from the motorway onto and back onto the motorway just past the scene where an investigation is currently underway.
