A Wichita man has been charged with raping and abusing young girls. The jury says he is guilty of 25 felonies

A 45-year-old Wichita man is scheduled to be sentenced this summer on more than two dozen felony counts involving rape and indecent liberties with underage girls, the Sedgwick County District Attorney’s Office announced Wednesday.

The jury convicted David Willy Mendoza on Monday. His trial began on April 29.

“Thank you to the citizens of Sedgwick County who served on the jury in Judge Bruce Brown’s court who found David Mendoza guilty of 25 felony counts on Monday,” the said The DA’s Office was posted on X.

According to court records, as of October 2022, Mendoza was charged with 13 counts of aggravated indecent liberties with a child, six counts of rape, four counts of aggravated criminal sodomy and one count each of kidnapping and criminal sodomy. According to prosecutors, he sexually abused five girls in multiple incidents between 2010 and 2022. Many of the victims were under 14 years old at the time of the abuse.

Mendoza pleaded not guilty in the case. He faces life in prison on multiple charges when he is sentenced June 21. He remained in the Sedgwick County Jail Wednesday.
