Police say 15 people were shot during Juneteenth celebrations in California – WSOC TV

According to police, several people were shot at a Juneteenth celebration in Oakland, California on Wednesday evening.

Oakland police said the shooting occurred shortly after 8:45 p.m. Thursday. According to KGO-TV, it was a Juneteenth celebration at Lake Merritt with about 5,000 people. The event was unauthorized.

The crowd was peaceful until a slideshow showing “motorcycles and vehicles” was shown around 8:15 p.m., The Associated Press reported. After the slideshow, a brawl broke out.

According to AP, 15 people were shot, police said. At least one person is in critical condition. The victims are between 20 and 30 years old.

According to KRON, no deaths were reported.

According to KGO-TV, no arrests were made in connection with the shooting. However, one person was arrested for assaulting a police officer.
