How Metro DC Police arrested a Northampton man suspected in his mother's death

Authorities in the District of Columbia have released new details about the arrest of a 49-year-old Northampton man on Sunday. Bucks County police say he killed his 82-year-old mother and then fled the area in her car.

On June 16, just before 1 a.m., Metro DC Police responded to the 600 block of H Street Northeast near the MGM National Harbor Hotel and Casino to assist an officer following a confrontation with William Ingram.

According to a DC police report, Ingram is said to have used a skateboard to smash the passenger and rear windows of a Ford Explorer marked with a police logo.

After breaking the windows, Ingram allegedly grabbed the officer by his vest, but the officer was able to break free and Ingram ran away. He was later stopped by police in the 1200 block of Florida Avenue Northeast and taken into custody.

During his arrest, Ingram told police officers in Washington that he had killed his mother, Dolores Ingram, and authorities there contacted Northampton police and requested a well-being check.

On Thursday afternoon, the Bucks County District Attorney’s Office is expected to announce that murder charges have been filed against Ingram in connection with the death of Dolores Ingram and provide an update on the criminal investigation. Ingram is expected to be returned to Bucks County today, according to the District Attorney’s Office.

Shortly before 2 p.m. Sunday, Northampton officers responded to building 26 on Beacon Hill Drive, where Dolores Ingram lived with William, police said.

The front door was locked, but police discovered blood on a windowsill and more bloodstains on the walls, windows and floor of the ground floor apartment. The furniture also appeared to be in disarray, police said.

After officers forced open the door, they found everything in the living room in a pile, including clothing, bedding, furniture and other household items.

Dolores Ingram was found dead behind a couch, buried under clothing and other items.

An autopsy revealed that Dolores Ingram died as a result of multiple injuries. Her death was ruled a homicide, according to the Bucks County Coroner’s Office.

Through subsequent investigations, the police learned that a neighbor had reported that she had been woken up by loud bangs around 1 a.m. on Saturday.

Shortly before 2 a.m., she checked her home’s security camera and it filmed a shirtless William Ingram running out of the apartment and going back in a minute later, police reported.

William Ingram was not seen again until shortly after 10 a.m. Saturday, when a neighbor’s surveillance camera allegedly filmed him leaving the house with a duffel bag in his hand, police said.

Police found Ingram’s car in the complex’s parking lot, but his mother’s 2015 Honda Civic was missing. Investigators tracked the Civic in the area of Newtown Township and Lower Makefield shortly after Ingram was observed leaving the home Saturday morning.

Metro DC’s complaint did not specify why Ingram was in Washington DC, and those details remain under investigation as of Wednesday, according to a Metro DC spokeswoman. Local authorities have not released any further information about why Ingram traveled there as of Thursday.

Ingram, who remains in custody in Washington, D.C., has not been charged in her death as of Thursday morning. However, Washington, D.C. police have charged Ingram with criminal damage to property and assault on a police officer, the complaint confirmed.

Northampton police have obtained an arrest warrant for Ingram, charging him with theft and receiving stolen property and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle. The charges relate to allegations that Ingram stole his mother’s vehicle on Saturday, authorities said.
