Grocery store employee arrested for sexually abusing 8-year-old girl | Mumbai News

A 39-year-old grocer was arrested by the Mumbai Police for allegedly sexually assaulting an eight-year-old girl in suburban Mumbai. Police said the incident took place on Tuesday evening, following which the accused was arrested from the shop.

According to police, the minor had gone to the store to buy biscuits on Tuesday. Police said the accused, who was alone in the store, called her inside under the pretext of giving her a biscuit and touched her inappropriately.

Police said her mother asked her at home why she was late and then told her about the ordeal.
An officer said: “The mother initially went into the store and confronted the defendant, but since he was under the influence of alcohol, he began to misbehave towards her as well.”

The woman then called the Mumbai Police and informed them. A team was sent to the scene and the accused was taken into custody.
Police said charges have been filed against the accused under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012.

“We are trying to find out whether the accused has sexually abused other people in the past,” an official said.
