Lewis County man apparently dies of drowning

LOWVILLE, N.Y. (WWNY) – A Lowville man is dead after apparently drowning in a pond in Lewis County Wednesday afternoon.

Lewis County Sheriff’s officials said the clothing of 20-year-old Stephen Kanagy was discovered on the bank of a small pond on West Road in the town of Lowville around 1:45 p.m. He went swimming and was not seen for about two hours.

Kanagy’s body was recovered from the pond with the help of the Sheriff’s Office dive team.

His death was pronounced at the scene.
